Here's a very rough picture of what I'm working on now. It's a herd of deer. It's my first time working on a painting with so many subjects. It will be quite the challenge but I look forward to it.
I'm also working on another painting at the same time. More updates to follow!

This is the last step before framing. I use this UV-Resistant spray after my painting has cured for 2 weeks. It's the final touch in the series of steps I take to protect your investment. I want to make sure that the painting is well protected from the damaging effects of the sun. I spray this outdoors as it's got quite a pungent smell and needs to be used in a well ventilated area. I also use the mask to ensure I breathe in as little as possible. It's important to evenly spay this so that it doesn't create pockets of too much or too little product as you'll be able to see that after it's dry. I give it 2 coats, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes in between. This product dries pretty fast, however be prepared for the smell to follow the panel indoors for the next few hours. Voila! We have a finished painting, all ready for the frame. I use Modern Painting and Framing in Ottawa. They do a great professional job! Thanks to all who followed this series. If you missed any of the posts, feel free to browse through them and through the archives.
Please leave comments, or contact me if you have any questions or suggestions on things you would like to see in this blog! Once you've prepped your board, be it Birch or Masonite, you're ready to paint your masterpiece. But what happens once you're done painting? Is that it? Nope! We need to protect your hard work! I use Golden Polymer Varnish with UVLS gloss. The gloss makes the colours pop (acrylic dries a little dull), and the UVLS helps protect the paint from UV rays.
